TWU Visual Arts Alumni Awarded Fulbright!
Please join the Department of Visual Arts and the Department of Women's Studies in congratulating Elizabeth Claffey on her 2012-2013 U.S. Fulbright Fellowship Award for the proposed photographic work, 'Home: Images of Domestic Traditions in Albania'. This fellowship is a full grant awarded by the U.S. Department of State and will provide the opportunity for Elizabeth to travel to Albania and produce imagery that explores current cultural identity and transformation since the transition from Communism, as shaped by women's influences on domestic space. When complete, this body of work will make a tremendous contribution to the discipline of photographic storytelling as a tool for creating international compassion and cultural understanding through artistic expression.
We are grateful to our Visual Arts faculty, Susan kae Grant and Jana Perez, for their guidance with Elizabeth's project proposal and for providing letters of reference. Thanks also go to Dr. Stephen Souris, and the Fulbright Review Committee; Monica Mendez-Grant, Dr. Claire L. The Department of Visual Arts will educate and empower students, especially ensuring opportunities for women and minorities, to become leaders in our society through excellence in the visual arts. Visual Arts offers students a variety of ways to engage in art making through practical experience with materials, the study of art theory and history, and critical thinking. Students generate new viewpoints within the art disciplines and are encouraged to contribute to their communities utilizing a new dialogue developed through visual art. Graduates of the Bachelors and Masters programs serve as teachers, leaders, and art professionals in a variety of fine art, educational and commercial art fields.
